Rafael Palacios, Louro do Bolo, Valdeorras

£19.65

Rafael Palacios is part of one of Spain’s most admired winemaking families – his family’s business was established in Rioja and his brother Alvaro is now a renowned producer in Priorat and Bierzo. Rafael is one of the pioneering quality producers in Valdeorras, working mainly with Godello on sandy /granite soils and terraced vineyards. He buys from around 20 small plots around the region.
Valdeorras (valley of gold) is in Galicia in northwest Spain, the cool, green region from where so many of the best Iberian white’s hail. It’s about 100km inland and is blessed with local grape varieties that are proving to be world- class. Godello is in our opinion one of Spain’s best white grapes, but don’t just take our word for it.
“Brilliant straw colour. Intense, dry, concentrated, sophisticated. Just the job for those who seek a reliable, sensibly priced alternative to fine white Burgundy. Confident and long. Honestly, there is just nothing to criticise about this wine.” – Jancis Robinson, writing in March 2021.
